La-Z-Boy Inc. shares tumbled 16.5% in after-hours trading on Monday after the company reported weaker-than-expected results for the fiscal first quarter ended July 25, 2026.
The stock fell to $34.09 from the prior close of $40.83. The furniture maker’s 52-week range stands at $29.03 to $44.90. The earnings release was published after U.S. markets closed on August 18, 2026.
For the quarter, La-Z-Boy posted earnings of 49 cents per share on revenue of approximately $495.5 million. Both figures missed Wall Street consensus estimates of $0.49 EPS and $495.5 million in revenue. The company’s prior quarter reported earnings of $1.26 per share with revenue of $570.3 million.
Management had previously warned of near-term headwinds, particularly in the wholesale segment and Joybird brand, citing uneven demand—especially in business-to-business channels. The company also noted that its first fiscal quarter typically represents its lowest-volume and lowest-margin period of the year.
Broader equity markets showed little movement on Monday, with the S&P 500 ending flat at 0.0%, the Dow Jones essentially unchanged, and the Nasdaq down 0.1%. Comparable furniture peers did not release material news, suggesting the decline was company-specific rather than sector-driven.
La-Z-Boy operates across brands including its namesake La-Z-Boy, Joybird, and other home furnishings segments. The company’s stock performance contrasts with broader market stability as investors reassess near-term demand conditions in the furniture industry.
