Shares of Kura Oncology rose on Monday after the company’s chief executive officer disclosed an insider purchase of the firm’s stock.
Kura Oncology said its CEO, Troy Wilson, acquired 20,000 shares at an average price of $3.50 per share in a private transaction. The purchase, disclosed in a regulatory filing, follows a period of underperformance for the biotech company’s stock, which has declined by roughly 15% over the past month.
The insider transaction, valued at approximately $70,000, was executed on Friday and reported to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday. Analysts noted that such purchases by executives are often interpreted as a signal of confidence in the company’s long-term prospects, though they do not guarantee future performance.
Kura Oncology, which focuses on the development of small-molecule kinase inhibitors for oncology indications, has faced challenges in advancing its lead drug candidate through clinical trials. The company’s shares were up 4.2% at $3.65 in midday trading, outpacing broader biotech sector gains.
The move by Wilson comes amid broader volatility in the biotechnology sector, where investor sentiment has been sensitive to clinical trial outcomes and regulatory developments. The company did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the transaction or its business outlook.
