Italy’s benchmark equities gauge advanced at the close on Friday, as gains in travel and leisure, technology and chemicals offset declines in energy and defense-linked names.
The Investing.com Italy 40 index rose 0.12% in Milan, lifting the gauge to modest gains after a mixed session. Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by 382 to 333, with 54 stocks unchanged at the close.
Stellantis NV led the advance, climbing 4.00% to close at €4.65, the largest single contributor to the index’s performance. Avio SpA added 2.55% to €32.14, while luxury goods maker Brunello Cucinelli rose 2.33% to €88.54.
Energy sector names lagged, with Tenaris SA falling 2.44% to €22.37. Defense contractor Leonardo SpA declined 1.88% to €56.25, and Mediobanca Banca di Credito Finanziario SpA dropped 1.81% to €27.65.
Commodities showed mixed movement, with Brent crude for October delivery up 0.70% at $94.44 per barrel and U.S. crude for the same month rising 0.18% to $86.99. December gold futures gained 2.20% to $4,671.76 per troy ounce. The euro held steady against the dollar, with EUR/USD little changed at 1.17, while the U.S. Dollar Index futures fell 0.08% to 98.74.
