Indian equities advanced at the close of trade on Thursday, with the Nifty 50 index rising 0.64% to 25,123.45, while the BSE Sensex 30 gained 0.82% to 82,456.30.
Gains were broad-based, led by real estate, information technology and technology stocks. Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by 1,465 to 1,111 on the National Stock Exchange, with 49 stocks unchanged. On the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2,254 stocks rose, 1,802 declined and 180 ended flat.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, fell 4.55% to 10.81, marking its lowest level in six months.
Among the top performers on the Nifty 50, Eternal Ltd added 2.50% to close at 328.00, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd rose 1.90% to 397.65 and Bajaj Finance Ltd gained 1.56% to 1,097.00. The index’s laggards included Hindalco Industries Ltd, which fell 1.54% to 1,023.00, IndusInd Bank Ltd, which declined 1.35% to 1,003.00, and Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd, which dropped 0.68% to 8,690.50.
On the BSE Sensex 30, Eternal Ltd rose 2.31% to 327.60, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd added 1.65% to 398.50 and ITC Ltd gained 1.63% to 271.25. The index’s weakest performers included Nestle India Ltd, which fell 0.90% to 1,456.65, IndusInd Bank Ltd, which lost 0.88% to 1,003.05, and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd, which declined 0.64% to 319.95.
Commodities traded mixed, with gold futures for December delivery up 0.11% at $4,550.30 per troy ounce and crude oil for October delivery rising 2.62% to $86.60 per barrel. Brent crude for October gained 2.37% to $93.79 per barrel. The U.S. dollar fell 0.03% against the Indian rupee to 95.73, while the euro rose 0.20% to 112.04. The U.S. Dollar Index futures were down 0.24% at 98.49.
