India’s benchmark equity gauges ended higher Tuesday, with gains concentrated in consumer durables, technology and metals, while broader market breadth remained negative.
The Nifty 50 index of the National Stock Exchange rose 0.48% to close at 24,980.60, extending modest gains after a mixed session. Advancing issues trailed declines by 1,135 to 1,436, with 56 stocks unchanged. The India VIX, which tracks Nifty 50 options volatility, fell 4.58% to 11.00, reflecting reduced near-term uncertainty.
The BSE Sensex 30 added 0.37% to finish at 83,120.40, as 1,922 shares advanced against 2,137 declines, with 157 unchanged. Sector performance diverged, with technology and consumer durables leading advances, while energy and healthcare lagged.
Among Nifty 50 components, Adani Enterprises led gains with a 3.19% rise to 3,094.20, followed by Apollo Hospitals at 8,840.00 after a 1.59% advance. Shriram Finance climbed 1.52% to 1,136.00. On the downside, Cipla fell 1.59% to 1,415.00, while Hero MotoCorp declined 1.14% to 5,620.00.
In broader equity moves, Adani Port and SEZ gained 1.19% to 1,695.00, Infosys rose 1.15% to 1,143.00, and Titan Company reached an all-time high of 5,115.00 after a 0.98% gain. Eternal and HCL Technologies were among the laggards, down 0.85% and 0.68% respectively.
Commodities declined as crude oil futures fell 3.13% to $82.35 per barrel for October delivery, while Brent crude for November delivery dropped 2.84% to $87.97. Gold futures for December delivery eased 0.19% to $4,688.71 per troy ounce. The Indian rupee strengthened 0.30% against the dollar to 95.46, while the euro fell 0.37% to 111.26.
