NuScale Power has partnered with Nuclearn and NPX to deploy AI-driven platforms designed to enhance engineering and knowledge management for small modular reactor (SMR) development. The collaboration integrates NuScale’s reactor expertise with Nuclearn’s nuclear AI platform, AtomAssist, and NPX’s project implementation experience.
The AI tools aim to streamline the retrieval and application of engineering data, licensing evidence, technical standards, and institutional knowledge. A proof-of-concept demonstrated a potential reduction of up to 80% in the time required to locate relevant information, according to the companies.
NuScale’s SMR technology, the NuScale Power Module, generates 77 megawatts of electricity or 250 megawatts thermal per module, with configurations scalable up to 924 megawatts using up to 12 modules. The company secured design certification from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for its SMR technology, reinforcing its regulatory compliance framework.
Dr. José Reyes, NuScale’s Chief Technology Officer, stated the partnership will equip teams with AI tools tailored to the nuclear sector, leveraging proprietary knowledge to improve efficiency while maintaining safety and quality standards. Jerrold Vincent, CFO and co-founder of Nuclearn, emphasized the platform’s ability to contextualize operational, regulatory, and safety implications behind engineering decisions.
The initiative targets NuScale’s engineering and knowledge management functions, particularly in supporting the development and deployment of SMR projects, including those in Corvallis, Oregon, and Kincardine, Ontario.
