The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services plans to name two new deputy commissioners at the Food and Drug Administration, according to a report citing sources familiar with the matter.
The first role will focus on technology, including healthcare and artificial intelligence, while the second will oversee drugs. Jared Seehafer is identified as the leading candidate for the technology position, according to three sources cited by CNBC. The agency has not yet made formal announcements, and no final decisions have been confirmed.
Separately, President Donald Trump last week nominated Heidi Overton, a White House policy aide, to lead the FDA. Overton’s appointment requires confirmation by the U.S. Senate. The FDA has not issued a formal statement regarding the planned appointments or Overton’s nomination.
CNBC reported the developments on Tuesday.
