Greek equities advanced on Wednesday, with the Athens General Composite Index closing up 1.26% at a five-year high as financial, construction and travel stocks led gains. The index finished at 1,234.56, marking its strongest close since 2019.
Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by 60 to 48, with 29 stocks unchanged at the close of trade. The gains were broad-based, with the banking sector among the top contributors, alongside construction and travel-linked companies.
Holding Company ADMIE IPTO SA led the advancers, rising 4.12% to 4.55. Public Power SA followed with a 3.86% gain to 23.70, while Performance Technologies IT Solutions added 3.14% to 10.18. On the downside, Evropi Holdings SA fell 2.05% to 1.72, Piraeus Port Authority SA declined 1.22% to 40.40 and Fais Symmetochon AE dropped 1.02% to 3.39.
Commodity markets showed mixed performance, with gold futures for December delivery down 0.57% at $4,667.95 per troy ounce. Crude oil futures for October delivery fell 0.61% to $81.86 per barrel, while the Brent crude contract for November delivery declined 0.62% to $86.73 per barrel. The euro held steady against the dollar, with EUR/USD flat at 1.16, and EUR/GBP unchanged at 0.86. The U.S. Dollar Index futures rose 0.31% to 99.14.
