Greek equities closed higher on Friday, with the Athens General Composite Index rising 0.49% as gains in banking, construction and travel sectors offset broader market pressures.
Advancing stocks outnumbered declining ones by a margin of 58 to 48, while 27 issues were unchanged. The index’s performance reflected a mixed regional backdrop, with declines in global commodities weighing on broader sentiment.
Among the top gainers, Ekter led advances with a 4.34% rise to close at 5.29, followed by Piraeus Port Authority SA, which gained 3.36% to 41.50. HELLENiQ ENERGY Holdings SA added 2.11% to finish at 15.47. On the downside, Unibios Holdings SA fell 2.48% to 2.75, Allwyn AG declined 2.33% to 13.82, and Motor Oil Hellas Corinth Refineries SA dropped 1.64% to 60.10.
Commodity markets showed weakness, with gold futures for December delivery falling 1.32% to $4,602.21 per troy ounce. Crude oil benchmarks also declined, with WTI for October delivery down 0.59% at $83.04 per barrel and Brent crude for November delivery down 0.43% at $88.14 per barrel. The U.S. Dollar Index futures fell 0.38% to 99.47, while the EUR/USD pair was little changed at 1.16 and EUR/GBP held at 0.86.
