Italy’s benchmark equity index closed higher on Friday, as gains in travel and leisure, telecommunications and utilities offset declines in defense and engineering sectors.
The Investing.com Italy 40, which tracks the performance of the 40 largest listed companies on the Milan exchange, rose 0.65% at the close of trade. Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by 379 to 306, with 62 stocks unchanged.
Lottomatica Group led the gains, climbing 2.32% to close at €25.59. Stellantis added 2.28% to €4.68, while Bper Banca rose 2.21% to €14.27.
Leonardo was the top decliner, falling 3.96% to €52.87. Fincantieri declined 1.73% to €12.52, and Prysmian dropped 1.25% to €122.05.
Oil prices fell, with Brent crude for November delivery down 0.66% at $87.94 per barrel and U.S. crude for October delivery down 0.61% at $83.02 per barrel. Gold futures for December delivery declined 2.07% to $4,567.50 per troy ounce.
The euro weakened 0.49% against the dollar to $1.16, while the U.S. Dollar Index futures rose 0.45% to 99.54.
