Genentech, a unit of Roche Group, announced plans to invest approximately $750 million in a new device fill-finish manufacturing facility at its 75-acre campus in Hillsboro, Oregon. The investment will expand end-to-end device filling capabilities and double the existing facility’s size, with commercial operations expected to begin in 2031.
The project is projected to create 250 high-wage manufacturing jobs and roughly 200 construction roles during site development. The facility will support advanced drug delivery devices, including pre-filled syringes and autoinjectors, enabling patients to receive treatments outside clinical settings.
Designed for flexibility, the Hillsboro plant will accommodate both high- and low-volume device filling across Roche and Genentech’s portfolio, allowing the site to adapt to evolving manufacturing demands. The investment follows the recent completion of Genentech’s new manufacturing facility in Holly Springs, North Carolina, which is strategically positioned to support global production of metabolic medicines, including next-generation obesity treatments.
Roche and Genentech currently operate 13 manufacturing sites, 15 research and development centers, and employ approximately 25,000 people across 24 locations in eight U.S. states. The company, headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, is a global leader in diagnostics, medicines, and digital health solutions, with a focus on oncology, neurology, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, and other therapeutic areas.
Genentech, a wholly owned subsidiary of Roche, plays a key role in the group’s U.S. operations. Roche also holds a majority stake in Chugai Pharmaceutical, a major innovator in Japan’s therapeutic antibody market.
