GameStop Corp’s shares advanced 6.2% in pre-market trading on Tuesday, defying broader market weakness as the S&P 500, Dow Jones and Nasdaq slipped 0.2%, 0.1% and 0.2%, respectively.
The stock had recently reached a 52-week low of $17.79, underscoring the volatility that has characterized its recent trading history.
Preliminary financial results for the quarter ended August 1, 2026, showed operating income projected between $150 million and $170 million, more than double the $66.4 million recorded in the same period a year earlier. Net sales, however, are estimated to decline to a range of $780 million to $800 million from $972.2 million in the prior-year period. The company cited the prior year’s Nintendo Switch 2 launch, planned store closures and the divestiture of its France operations as key factors behind the decrease in revenue.
Net income is expected to benefit from the conversion of a previously disclosed derivative position related to eBay into a direct equity stake, which contributed a substantial investment gain during the quarter.
Separately, GameStop amended its $1.4 billion convertible notes exchange agreement. Under the original structure, the exchange was set to settle entirely in Class A common shares over a 35-trading-day volume-weighted average price reference period that began on August 3. The amended terms terminate the remaining portion of that reference period and replace it with a $358.4 million cash payment and the issuance of 55.5 million shares for the elapsed portion. The change fixes the total share count to be issued, thereby reducing open-ended dilution risk for existing shareholders.
GameStop’s shares have been highly sensitive to retail performance and corporate actions, with the latest developments reflecting both operational updates and strategic financial adjustments amid a challenging market environment.
