Freedom Gold Corp. said on Friday it has appointed John Shurko as chief executive officer and a director, replacing Veronique Laberge, who will remain as chief financial officer.
Shurko, a co-founder and president of 21Alpha Resources Inc., brings experience in prospecting, soil geochemistry, core studies and drilling programs totaling more than 4,000 meters of diamond drilling since 2016. His appointment is effective immediately.
The Vancouver-based company also disclosed plans for a non-brokered private placement of up to 4.44 million flow-through common shares at C$0.18 each, targeting gross proceeds of C$800,000. The offering is subject to a four-month-and-one-day hold period. Eligible finders may receive fees on a portion of the offering, and certain insiders may participate under related-party transaction rules.
Freedom Gold intends to use proceeds to incur Canadian exploration expenses qualifying as flow-through mining expenditures on its Nova Scotia properties: Blockhouse, Widow Point, Frenchvale and Westfield. The company entered into an option agreement for these assets on June 4, 2026, and must complete qualifying expenditures between the closing date and December 31, 2027. Subscribers’ renunciation deadlines are set no later than December 31, 2026, with the offering expected to close on or about September 30, 2026.
Freedom Gold, founded in 2020, holds mineral properties in Quebec and Nova Scotia and is listed on the Canadian Securities Exchange under the ticker FRDM.
