Finnish equities retreated on Monday as losses in oil and gas, telecommunications and utilities offset gains in other sectors, with the OMX Helsinki 25 index closing 0.23% lower.
Advancers outnumbered decliners 86 to 77 on the Helsinki Stock Exchange, while 30 issues were unchanged. The broad market drift reflected weakness in heavyweight components, including Neste, Nokia and Bittium.
Neste led the declines, falling 5.02% or 1.65 points to close at 31.20. Bittium dropped 3.80% to 36.70, and Nokia declined 2.01% to 8.58. In contrast, Nokian Renkaat gained 2.86% to 16.56, marking a three-year high, while Valmet rose 1.66% to 28.24 and Huhtamaki advanced 1.45% to 32.08, with the latter reaching a 52-week peak.
Commodity markets showed divergent moves. Brent crude for November delivery fell 2.14% to $90.69 per barrel, while U.S. crude for October delivery dropped 2.55% to $84.84. Gold for December delivery, however, rose 0.56% to $4,706.71 per troy ounce.
The euro held steady against the dollar, with EUR/USD flat at 1.17, while EUR/GBP was unchanged at 0.86. The U.S. Dollar Futures Index eased 0.20% to 98.93.
