Finland’s equity market ended lower on Monday, with the OMX Helsinki 25 shedding 0.23% as declines in energy, telecoms and utilities offset gains in other sectors.
Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by 86 to 77 on the Helsinki exchange, with 30 stocks unchanged. Nokian Renkaat Oyj led the index’s gainers, rising 2.86% to 16.56, while Valmet Oyj added 1.66% to 28.24 and Huhtamaki Oyj climbed 1.45% to 32.08.
Among the laggards, Neste Oyj fell 5.02% to 31.20, Bittium Oyj dropped 3.80% to 36.70 and Nokia Oyj declined 2.01% to 8.58.
Oil prices weighed on energy stocks after Brent crude for November delivery fell 2.17% to $90.66 per barrel and U.S. crude for October delivery dropped 2.57% to $84.82 per barrel. In contrast, gold futures for December delivery rose 0.58% to $4,707.91 per troy ounce.
The euro held steady against major peers, with EUR/USD little changed at 1.17 and EUR/GBP flat at 0.86. The U.S. Dollar Index futures were up 0.19% at 98.92.
