Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco President Mary Daly said on Thursday that the central bank is not yet assessing how recent Treasury Department actions on debt issuance may affect its policy stance, emphasizing instead its core mandate of returning inflation to the 2% target.
Speaking on Bloomberg Television, Daly noted the early stage of the Treasury’s moves and cautioned against premature judgments. “These are early days, and I wouldn’t want to be preemptive in discussing those types of things until we’ve had a chance to think through those issues,” she stated.
Daly’s remarks underscore the Fed’s focus on achieving its inflation objective, with the 2% target remaining the primary guidepost for policy decisions. The Treasury’s debt management strategy has drawn attention in financial markets, but Daly indicated the central bank is not yet factoring those actions into its deliberations.
The comments come as the Fed continues to balance inflation progress against broader economic conditions, with Daly’s remarks reflecting a measured approach to external developments that may influence policy indirectly.
