Ecopetrol Names Alfonso Barco Acting CEO, Effective September 15, 2026

Ecopetrol S.A., Colombia’s largest company and a major player in the nation’s hydrocarbon production, has named Alfonso Camilo Barco Muñoz as its acting chief executive officer, effective immediately on September 15, 2026. The appointment follows Juan Carlos Hurtado Parra’s retirement from the position, which he had held since July 2026, having previously served as Executive Vice President of Hydrocarbons. Barco Muñoz, currently serving as Corporate Vice President of Finance and Sustainable Value and as an alternate legal representative, brings over 35 years of executive experience in investment banking, corporate finance, and governance across energy, oil and gas, infrastructure, and financial services sectors. His appointment was approved by Ecopetrol’s Board of Directors on Sunday, following a mutual agreement to grant Hurtado Parra’s retirement plan, which became effective on July 2026. Ecopetrol, headquartered in Bogotá and listed on the Colombian Stock Exchange (BVC) and New York Stock Exchange (NYSE under `EC`), is Colombia’s largest company by employment, with over 19,000 staff members. The company is responsible for more than 60% of the country’s hydrocarbon production and operates across transportation, logistics, refining, petrochemicals, and gas distribution. Ecopetrol also holds a 51.4% stake in ISA, a company involved in energy transmission and infrastructure projects.
