The AEX index in Amsterdam closed 0.36% higher on Monday, extending gains from the broader European session. Advancing stocks outnumbered decliners by 51 to 43, with 12 issues unchanged at the close.
Gains were concentrated in the consumer services, financials and real estate sectors, offsetting declines in technology and energy-linked names. The AEX volatility gauge, based on AEX options, held steady at 21.09.
Among the top performers, Magnum Ice Cream N.V. rose 2.64% to 17.43, reaching record levels. Unilever PLC added 2.45% to 55.93, while Aegon Ltd climbed 2.22% to 7.93. The gains followed a late-session rebound after earlier profit-taking in broader European equities.
Decliners included SBM Offshore N.V., which fell 2.26% to 33.66, and BE Semiconductor Industries N.V., down 2.26% to 208.00. Prosus also slipped 1.36% to 37.78.
Elsewhere, the euro held steady against major peers, with EUR/USD little changed at 1.17 and EUR/GBP flat at 0.86. U.S. Dollar Index futures rose 0.17% to 98.90.
Commodities were mixed, with crude oil futures under pressure. October WTI crude fell 2.62% to $84.78 a barrel, while November Brent crude declined 2.26% to $90.58. December gold futures, however, gained 0.76% to $4,716.06 an ounce.
