Dutch equities closed lower on Tuesday, with the AEX index falling 0.15% as losses in consumer services, basic materials and oil and gas sectors offset gains in other areas. The index recorded 56 advancers, 38 decliners and 10 unchanged issues, while volatility remained flat at 21.09.
SBM Offshore NV led the index’s gainers, rising 2.38% to close at €34.46, followed by Koninklijke KPN NV with a 0.86% gain to €4.12 and Universal Music Group NV, which added 0.85% to €14.88. On the downside, BE Semiconductor Industries NV fell 4.23% to €199.20, the sharpest drop among components, while Wolters Kluwer NV declined 3.07% to €69.50 and IMCD NV slipped 1.95% to €95.52.
Commodities extended declines, with October crude oil futures dropping 3.35% to $82.16 per barrel and November Brent crude falling 3.45% to $87.42 per barrel. December gold futures, however, edged up 0.14% to $4,704.56 per troy ounce.
In currency markets, the EUR/USD pair was little changed, ending flat at 1.17, while the EUR/GBP held steady at 0.86. The U.S. Dollar Index futures rose 0.06% to 98.87.
