The AEX index in Amsterdam closed 0.15% lower on Tuesday, weighed by losses in the consumer services, basic materials and oil and gas sectors.
Advancing stocks outnumbered decliners by 56 to 38 on the exchange, with 10 issues unchanged. The AEX’s volatility gauge remained steady at 21.09, unchanged from the prior session.
Among the top performers, SBM Offshore NV rose 2.38% to 34.46, Koninklijke KPN NV added 0.86% to 4.12 and Universal Music Group NV gained 0.85% to 14.88.
The sharpest declines were seen in BE Semiconductor Industries NV, which fell 4.23% to 199.20, followed by Wolters Kluwer NV down 3.07% to 69.50 and IMCD NV, which slipped 1.95% to 95.52.
Crude oil futures for October delivery dropped 3.32% to $82.19 a barrel, while Brent crude for November fell 3.45% to $87.42. Gold futures for December rose 0.16% to $4,705.31 an ounce. The euro held steady against the dollar, with EUR/USD up 0.07% at 1.17, while the US Dollar Index futures fell 0.06% to 98.87.
