DFDS shares jump on strong Q1 outlook, dividend hike
Danish ferry operator DFDS raised its 2024 guidance and announced a higher dividend, lifting shares by over 5% amid broader market gains.

Shares of DFDS A/S surged on Tuesday after the Danish ferry operator upgraded its full-year earnings guidance and announced a dividend increase, reflecting stronger-than-expected first-quarter performance.
The company, which operates routes across Northern Europe, now expects adjusted EBITDA for 2024 to exceed prior forecasts, driven by robust demand and improved operational efficiency. DFDS also declared an interim dividend of 3.5 Danish kroner per share, up from 2.5 kroner in the prior period, signaling confidence in its cash flow outlook.
Analysts attributed the upward revision to sustained passenger volumes, particularly on its North Sea and Baltic Sea routes, as well as cost discipline. The dividend hike underscored management’s commitment to returning capital to shareholders while maintaining investment capacity for fleet modernization and route expansions.
DFDS shares rose more than 5% in early trading, outpacing broader European equity benchmarks. The stock has gained roughly 12% year-to-date, supported by steady freight and passenger demand despite broader macroeconomic headwinds.
The company is scheduled to release its full first-quarter results on May 8, with market participants anticipating further details on margin trends and capital allocation plans.
