Sphere 3D posts Q2 loss as data center conversion progresses
Company reports quarterly net loss despite ongoing transition to data center operations, with strategy aimed at long-term revenue growth.

Sphere 3D Corp. on Tuesday reported a net loss of $2.1 million for the second quarter ended June 30, narrowing from a $3.4 million loss in the same period last year.
The Toronto-based technology firm attributed the reduced loss to lower operating expenses and progress in its data center conversion strategy. Revenue for the quarter totaled $1.2 million, down from $1.5 million in Q2 2023, reflecting the company’s ongoing shift away from legacy business segments.
Management highlighted the completion of key infrastructure upgrades at its data center facilities in North America, positioning the company to capitalize on growing demand for colocation and cloud services. Sphere 3D has been transitioning its business model to focus on high-margin data center operations, which it expects to drive profitability in the medium term.
Chief Executive Officer Gerard Galvan stated that the company remains on track to achieve its strategic objectives, including the expansion of its data center footprint and the development of AI-ready infrastructure. The CEO emphasized that while near-term financial performance remains challenged, the long-term outlook is supported by industry tailwinds in data center demand.
Shares of Sphere 3D were down 3% in after-hours trading following the release of the earnings report.
