Deutsche Bank has introduced a dedicated monthly chartbook to monitor automobile sales in the United Kingdom, reflecting the country’s expanding role as an export destination for Chinese automakers.
The UK has become a key overseas market for Chinese manufacturers, with overseas sales serving as a significant earnings driver for the sector. China retained its position as the world’s largest auto exporter in 2025, shipping 7.10 million units, a 21% increase from the prior year. Passenger vehicles accounted for 6.04 million units of the total, while commercial vehicles made up 1.06 million units.
In the first seven months of 2026, six Chinese automakers—Chery, BYD, SAIC, Geely, Chang’an, and Great Wall Motor—dominated passenger vehicle exports. Their combined shipments underpinned the broader growth trend in China’s overseas sales.
UK auto sales data for July showed 186,993 units, up 14% year-over-year but down 24% from June. The monthly decline followed a period of sustained growth, highlighting volatility in domestic demand despite the broader expansion in Chinese exports to Britain.
