Cornerstone Strategic Value Fund Inc. (CLM) shares dropped to a 52-week low of $6.92 on Monday, marking the lowest valuation since March 2023. The fund, which invests primarily in leveraged loans and high-yield corporate debt, has faced persistent pressure amid rising interest rates and elevated market volatility.
The decline reflects broader trends in the loan and fixed-income markets, where higher borrowing costs have dampened investor appetite for riskier assets. Cornerstone Strategic Value Fund, which trades on the New York Stock Exchange, has seen its share price decline by approximately 15% over the past three months, underperforming broader equity benchmarks.
Analysts attribute the fund's underperformance to its concentrated exposure to leveraged loans, a sector particularly sensitive to shifts in monetary policy. The Federal Reserve's aggressive rate hikes over the past year have increased borrowing costs for companies, reducing profitability and increasing default risks.
The fund's 52-week low comes as investors reassess risk in credit markets, with liquidity conditions tightening and economic growth concerns mounting. Cornerstone Strategic Value Fund did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
