Coherent outlined its strategy to meet surging AI infrastructure demands at the Six Five Summit: AI Unleashed 2026, emphasizing optical networking as a critical enabler for distributed data center architectures.
The optical solutions provider, trading at $291.90, reported a 214.63% return over the past year, positioning it among the most undervalued stocks according to InvestingPro metrics. During the event, CMO Sanjai Parthasarathi discussed Coherent’s role in addressing power constraints that are pushing AI workloads beyond traditional single-facility scaling models. The company’s approach centers on a "scale across" networking framework, which distributes computational loads across multiple data centers via high-bandwidth interconnects.
Key components of this model include data center interconnect (DCI) transceivers, which convert electrical signals to optical signals at facility edges, and optical transport equipment deployed between data centers to amplify, condition, and monitor fiber integrity. Coherent’s multi-rail platform, designed for intermediate spaces such as amplifier huts, delivers a fourfold capacity increase within the same physical footprint while maintaining sublinear power scaling—avoiding a proportional rise in energy consumption.
Parthasarathi, with nearly 30 years in optical communications, highlighted Coherent’s expanded indium phosphide production to meet AI-driven demand. The company operates over 50 manufacturing sites globally, including more than 20 in the U.S., and leverages a five-decade history of innovation. Beyond terrestrial networks, Coherent supplies free-space optical components for satellite communications, where components must withstand radiation, launch stresses, and vibrations while enabling line-of-sight connections between objects moving at 4,000 kilometers per hour.
Coherent’s stock performance reflects investor confidence in its positioning within the AI infrastructure ecosystem, though the company did not provide updated financial guidance during the summit.
