China and Jordan called for the preservation of the U.S.-Iran ceasefire during a meeting in Beijing on Monday, as regional tensions remained elevated. The appeal came as both nations urged the restoration of normal maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments.
Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Jordan’s King Abdullah in the Chinese capital, where the two leaders issued a joint statement expressing deep concern over escalatory actions by Israel in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The statement, carried by China’s Xinhua news agency, emphasized the need for a comprehensive solution to address the root causes of regional instability through dialogue and negotiations.
The Strait of Hormuz has been a focal point of recent geopolitical friction, with disruptions to shipping lanes posing risks to energy markets. The call for restored passage follows prior incidents in the region that have heightened concerns over supply chain security. Both China and Jordan highlighted the importance of maintaining regional stability to prevent further escalation.
