China has expanded its digital yuan ecosystem by adding eight commercial banks to the e-CNY network, bringing the total number of authorized operating institutions to 30.
The newly authorized lenders will begin offering e-CNY services to customers after completing necessary operational and technical preparations. The inclusion of additional banks marks a steady incremental expansion of the state-backed digital currency infrastructure as authorities continue testing and scaling the payment network.
The digital yuan, officially known as the e-CNY, is a central bank digital currency issued by the People's Bank of China. While adoption trials have expanded across multiple cities and retail sectors over recent years, Chinese regulators continue to integrate commercial banking partners to broaden distribution capabilities and system interoperability.
