U.S. brokerage Charles Schwab plans to grow its Hyderabad-based global capability centre to 2,000 employees by the end of 2027, with hiring to commence in phases starting with roughly 500 roles in the first year.
The centre, inaugurated on August 19, 2026, will provide technology development, engineering and operational support for Schwab’s U.S. operations, while bringing some technology functions currently outsourced in India in-house. The facility is located in Telangana’s capital city, Hyderabad.
India remains the world’s largest global capability centre hub, hosting more than 2,100 centres employing about 2.36 million people and generating nearly $100 billion in revenue, according to a 2026 Nasscom-Zinnov report. Financial firms including JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Barclays and American Express account for one-quarter of the country’s GCC workforce.
Telangana alone hosts over 475 global centres and expects to add another 100 within the next year, state IT minister Sridhar Babu said on Wednesday. The expansion comes as companies adopt artificial intelligence to enhance software and R&D efficiency, prompting cautious headcount additions in some sectors.
Standard Chartered has indicated that roles in its Indian back-office centres may be affected by restructuring, while Wells Fargo has noted that AI could eventually reduce parts of its workforce. Analysts suggest newer entrants may continue to build teams from scratch despite broader industry caution.
