Block Inc.'s Cash App will be integrated into Workday's enhanced direct deposit election experience starting Oct. 1, allowing U.S. employees to route their paychecks directly into Cash App accounts, the companies said.
The partnership expands Cash App's reach among so-called "modern earners" — freelancers, side-hustlers, content creators and gig workers — who remain underpenetrated by digital-first banking options. According to research cited by Cash App, 65% of such earners still receive traditional ACH direct deposits to conventional bank accounts.
Block reported 9.4 million Primary Banking Actives in the second quarter of 2026, up 17% from a year earlier. The company defines Primary Banking Actives as Cash App accounts that either receive ACH inflows from earned wages (excluding tax refunds and ACH transfers) or spend at least $500 per month across the platform.
"Direct deposit is one of the clearest signals that customers see Cash App as more than a place to send and receive money," Morgan Kuntze, global head of partnerships at Block, said in a statement. "By partnering with Workday, we're making it easier for more people to bring their paycheck into Cash App and unlock tools that help them manage, save, spend and access their money."
Cash App's banking services are provided through partner institutions, with prepaid debit cards issued by Sutton Bank and The Bancorp Bank. The integration comes as Block continues to push its embedded banking offerings into the mainstream payroll ecosystem, positioning Cash App as an alternative to traditional employerdirect deposit routing options.
