Canada’s benchmark S&P/TSX Composite Index fell 0.82% at the close of trade on Tuesday, dragged lower by declines in clean technology, information technology and materials sectors.
The Toronto Stock Exchange saw falling stocks outnumber advancing ones by 605 to 355, with 78 issues unchanged. The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which tracks implied volatility in the index’s options, rose 5.68% to 13.77.
Among the top gainers, BRP Inc. advanced 7.74% to 95.31, Bausch Health Companies Inc. added 5.93% to 9.65 and RB Global Inc. rose 4.50% to 119.13. The strongest declines were led by Celestica Inc., which dropped 8.38% to 431.98, followed by Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. at 30.91 and OceanaGold Corporation at 38.25.
Commodity-linked moves showed gold futures for December delivery down 1.83% at $4,391.72 per troy ounce, while crude oil for October delivery rose 0.57% to $84.22 per barrel. Brent crude for October gained 0.23% to $91.08 per barrel.
The Canadian dollar held steady against the U.S. dollar, trading at 0.72, while its exchange rate with the euro was unchanged at 0.62.
