The Brazilian spot dollar strengthened 0.23% on Monday, closing at R$5.1534 for sale as the U.S. currency gained ground against major peers. The move reflected broader dollar strength, with the U.S. Dollar Index rising 0.20% to 99.004.
On B3, the September U.S. dollar futures contract, the most traded in Brazil, was up 0.23% at R$5.1580 at 17:11 local time. The contract’s performance mirrored the spot market’s modest advance.
Market participants cited the dollar’s broad-based appreciation as the primary driver behind the real’s decline. Traders remained focused on geopolitical developments and domestic electoral developments, which contributed to cautious positioning in foreign-exchange markets.
