Brazil’s federal tax revenue reached a record 289.346 billion reais ($56.17 billion) in July, an 8.97% increase in real terms from the same month a year earlier, the Treasury said on Tuesday.
The July figure marks the highest monthly collection for any July since the government began tracking the data in 1995, underscoring efforts by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s administration to bolster public finances through stronger revenue collection.
For the first seven months of 2026, total federal revenue climbed 6.98% in real terms to 1.877 trillion reais, outpacing inflation for the period. The Treasury attributed the gains to higher receipts from payroll taxes, fixed-income investment earnings, interest on equity payments and corporate income taxes.
Revenue managed by other government agencies surged 28.87% in real terms year-over-year, driven largely by oil royalty payments amid elevated international crude prices linked to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
