Brazil’s right-wing presidential hopeful Senator Flavio Bolsonaro has expanded his campaign’s economic policy team with the addition of Adolfo Sachsida, a former mines and energy minister, as well as Daniella Marques, a former chief executive of state-owned lender Caixa Econômica Federal.
The appointments were announced on Tuesday, August 18, as part of efforts to strengthen Bolsonaro’s economic platform ahead of the October election. Sachsida will join the team under the leadership of Marques, who has been a visible presence at campaign events and media engagements. The campaign has yet to name a candidate for finance minister if Bolsonaro secures victory.
The economic policy platform outlined by the campaign includes proposals to overhaul Brazil’s fiscal framework through measures aimed at stabilizing and reducing public debt. Additional goals include imposing limits on subsidized credit and gradually lowering the cost of formal labor hiring. The campaign did not specify how these objectives would be achieved.
Beyond economic policy, the campaign added energy and infrastructure advisors Adriano Pires and Alexandre Chequer. The team was further bolstered by Carolina Ragazzi, a former Goldman Sachs vice president in Brazil, and Lyvia Montezano, a social activist, as part of a broader effort to include women’s perspectives in policy proposals.
Recent opinion polls indicate President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva maintaining a narrow lead over Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, with analysts suggesting a potential runoff scenario in the election.
