Brazil’s formal labor market added 58,568 jobs in July, missing economists’ median forecast of 112,000 and marking the slowest monthly gain this year.
Hiring activity totaled 2.26 million openings during the month, while 2.20 million positions were terminated, resulting in the net gain. The July figure also represented the weakest performance for any month of July since the government’s historical series began in 2020.
Year-to-date through July, Brazil created 972,203 net formal jobs, a 21% decline from the 1.23 million added in the same period of 2025. The data, released by the Ministry of Labor on Friday, underscores a deceleration in labor market momentum amid broader economic headwinds.
The report follows a period of uneven recovery in Brazil’s job market, with hiring trends diverging from earlier-year projections as demand conditions softened.
