Boston Scientific said a cybersecurity incident detected on Tuesday disrupted some of its global information systems, particularly those used to process and ship customer orders.
The medical device manufacturer disclosed the breach on Wednesday, noting it had activated incident-response procedures and engaged third-party cybersecurity specialists to investigate and contain the threat. The company stated that parts of its business are expected to remain affected while recovery efforts continue. Boston Scientific has not yet determined whether the incident will have a material impact on operations or financial performance.
Shares of Boston Scientific fell about 5% in premarket trading following the disclosure. The company’s stock, listed on the NYSE under ticker BSX, had been trading around $70.50 before the incident.
The attack adds to a recent wave of cyber incidents targeting the healthcare sector. Recent victims include Abbott Laboratories, Stryker, Medtronic, Clover Health, Novo Nordisk, and West Pharmaceutical Services, according to the report.
