Bitpanda, the Austrian cryptocurrency exchange, announced a leadership change on Tuesday that will see its current CEO Lukas Enzersdorfer-Konrad depart in the first quarter of 2027.
Enzersdorfer-Konrad will join Erste Bank, where he is expected to expand the lender's offerings in digital assets, the bank confirmed. He said in a Reuters interview that he had not actively sought a new position but found the offer from the Austrian lender irresistible.
To ensure a smooth transition, co-founder and chief developer Christian Trummer will assume the role of co-chairman of the board while the supervisory board searches for a permanent successor to Enzersdorfer-Konrad.
Bitpanda operates a trading platform that allows investors to buy and sell cryptocurrencies, equities and precious metals. The company says it has seven million registered users. It holds a German license for crypto trading and partners with online bank N26 among others.
The leadership change at Bitpanda, one of Europe's larger cryptocurrency exchanges, signals a shift in how traditional financial institutions are recruiting experienced crypto executives to broaden their digital-asset product lines.
