Athena Gold Corporation announced on Monday that Fred Leigh has been appointed to its board of directors. Brian Power resigned from the board in connection with Leigh's appointment and will continue working with the company in a consulting capacity.
Leigh brings nearly 40 years of resource sector experience. He is the founder and president of VC7K Capital Inc., which has invested in early-stage resource opportunities for over 35 years. He was a founding investor in the group that acquired the Golden Bear Mine from Wheaton River Minerals, an early investor in Hathor Exploration (acquired by Rio Tinto for approximately C$650 million in 2011), and an early director of Great Bear Resources (acquired by Kinross for C$1.8 billion in 2022).
The company also granted 2,000,000 stock options to directors, officers and consultants under its 2026 Stock Option Plan. The options have an exercise price of $0.34 per share, vest immediately, expire in ten years and are subject to approval by the Canadian Securities Exchange, with a four-month statutory hold on the options and any shares issued upon exercise. Athena Gold’s projects include the Laird Lake property in Ontario’s Red Lake Gold District (over 7,000 hectares, 10 km west of West Red Lake Gold’s Madsen mine and 34 km northwest of Kinross’ Great Bear project), the Forester Project in northwestern Ontario (14,930 hectares, less than 30 km southeast of Equinox Gold’s Musselwhite Mine), and the Excelsior Springs Project in Nevada’s Walker Lane Trend, currently under an earn‑in option with Mammoth Minerals Limited.
