AstraZeneca announced that Tezspire met both primary and secondary endpoints in a phase 3 trial evaluating the drug for the treatment of eosinophilic esophagitis, a chronic inflammatory condition of the esophagus.
The late-stage study demonstrated that Tezspire significantly reduced esophageal inflammation compared with placebo. Additionally, the therapy decreased the frequency and severity of swallowing difficulties among treated patients, addressing a key symptom of the disease.
Tezspire is a monoclonal antibody designed to target thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), a protein implicated in driving inflammation associated with eosinophilic conditions and severe asthma. The drug is being developed under a collaboration between AstraZeneca and Amgen.
The phase 3 trial represents the final stage of clinical evaluation before regulatory submissions, with results expected to support global filings for Tezspire in eosinophilic esophagitis.
