Sunshine Biopharma Inc. said it received Canadian market approval for atenolol tablets in 25mg, 50mg and 100mg strengths, expanding its generics portfolio in the country.
The generic beta-blocker, used to treat hypertension and angina pectoris and to improve survival after a heart attack, will be distributed through Sunshine Biopharma's wholly owned subsidiary Nora Pharma Inc. Shipments to pharmacies are anticipated to begin by the end of 2026.
The approval follows Sunshine Biopharma's existing portfolio of 60 generic prescription drugs currently marketed in Canada. The company plans to launch approximately 12 additional generics during the remainder of 2026, it said.
Sunshine Biopharma also operates a drug development program featuring K1.1 mRNA for liver cancer and a PLpro protease inhibitor for SARS coronavirus infections. The company did not disclose financial terms related to the atenolol approval.
