AI startup Anthropic will lease cloud computing capacity from Nscale for $45 billion over six years, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The agreement provides Anthropic with approximately 460 megawatts of power capacity at Nscale’s campus in West Virginia, the source said. The facility will be powered by Nvidia’s Vera Rubin chips, expanding Nscale’s existing infrastructure.
The deal follows Anthropic’s earlier arrangement with SpaceX to rent capacity at the Colossus 1 facility in Memphis, which houses more than 220,000 Nvidia processors and offers an additional 300 megawatts of power. That prior agreement was struck in May 2024, reflecting the AI startup’s aggressive push to secure compute resources amid rising demand for its products, including the coding tool Claude Code.
The latest commitment underscores the broader industry competition for AI infrastructure, as companies race to meet surging computational needs driven by generative AI applications. Anthropic declined to comment on the reported deal.
