Anthropic has selected the Nasdaq stock exchange as its listing venue for an anticipated initial public offering, according to Business Insider, which cited a person familiar with the company's plans.
The move would give Nasdaq another high-profile win after SpaceX completed its listing on the exchange earlier this year. That rocket company's IPO raised $86.3 billion at a $1.75 trillion valuation, marking the largest U.S. debut in history.
Media reports indicate Anthropic is aiming for a valuation of roughly $2 trillion as it seeks to raise capital through the offering, with figures as high as $100 billion in total proceeds under consideration.
Nvidia is in discussions to become an anchor investor in the deal, potentially committing up to $10 billion, Reuters reported on Friday. The AI chipmaker already holds a significant stake in Anthropic and would be one of the largest existing investors participating in the offering.
The IPO timing comes amid a broader debate within the AI industry about the pace of development. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has publicly called for a slowdown in AI advancement, a position echoed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and xAI founder Elon Musk.
When pressed on whether his own company might pursue a public listing, Altman told Fortune on Friday that going public now would be ill-advised given current safety concerns. "I actually think that, given everything happening with safety, right now would be an ill-advised moment to go public, and we don't feel pressure on that," he said, adding that OpenAI does not expect to list this year.
A formal filing for the IPO has not yet been announced.
Business Insider reported its account on Sunday.
