Japan’s Advantest Corp. (6857.T) has rallied 203% over the past year as a semiconductor demand rebound and its role as a critical Nvidia supplier fuel earnings growth and valuation upgrades. The Tokyo-based test-equipment maker reported a ¥367.5 billion quarterly revenue beat in June, exceeding estimates by ¥32 billion, while earnings per share of ¥241.27 surpassed forecasts by 54.3%. The stock surged 9.5% on the release after four consecutive quarters of EPS surprises.
Analysts project Advantest’s revenue will nearly triple from a cyclical trough of ¥487 billion in FY2024 to ¥1.13 trillion by FY2026, a 132% increase over two fiscal years. Consensus estimates call for ¥1.71 trillion next fiscal year, rising to ¥2.15 trillion by FY2028 and ¥2.57 trillion by FY2029. Forward earnings growth remains robust, with FY2027 estimated EPS of ¥883.86 implying a 72% increase from FY2026’s actual EPS of ¥515.
Gross margins have rebounded from a 2024 low of 50.6% to a record 64.3%, while return on equity stands at 56.9%. The company’s trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 56.2x and forward P/E of 39.8x reflect elevated valuation amid strong growth expectations. Nomura raised its price target to ¥42,400 on August 13, up from ¥30,600, citing the improved outlook and Nvidia’s chip demand trajectory.
Technical indicators remain bullish. Daily charts show a buy signal with the RSI at 53.5, a bullish MACD crossover, and stochastic at 87.3, indicating short-term overbought conditions. Weekly and monthly charts also signal strong momentum, with the RSI at 61.9 and 73.4 respectively, and the ADX at 55.6 on the monthly chart, underscoring a powerful uptrend.
Nvidia’s recent earnings underscore the symbiotic relationship. The U.S. chip giant reported $96.2 billion in revenue for its latest quarter and guided Q3 sales to $108 billion, though it flagged gross margin pressure due to rising high-bandwidth memory costs. Advantest’s stock dipped 3.14% the session after Nvidia’s August 26 report, following a 3.6% gain the prior day on elevated expectations.
Despite trading 18.3% above its fair value estimate of ¥28,255, analysts see 17.6% upside to consensus targets, reflecting confidence in sustained semiconductor investment cycles tied to AI infrastructure expansion.
