Swiss Travels to US Plunge 16.5% in First Half of 2026

Visits from Switzerland to the United States fell sharply in the first half of 2026, continuing a steep decline that began after Donald Trump returned to the White House.

Between January and June, 120,000 Swiss travellers entered the US — a drop of 16.5 per cent compared with the same period last year, Andrea Beffa, managing director of the Schweizer Reise-Verband (SRV), said Wednesday at a media conference, according to the AWP news agency.

The downturn has accelerated since 2025, when Swiss arrivals fell 10.6 per cent to roughly 361,000. "If this trend continues through the end of the year, we expect around 300,000 entries from Switzerland in 2026," Beffa said. That would mark the lowest level in two decades, roughly matching the 2007 figure.

Over the past two years, since Trump's second term began, the US has lost about a quarter of Swiss tourists. By contrast, total arrivals reached 404,434 in 2024.

The SRV data underscores how quickly the political climate in Washington has reshaped transatlantic travel patterns from Switzerland, one of Europe's highest-spending tourist markets.
