Itaú to pilot tokenized securities in Brazil’s ANBIMA initiative
Lender joins industry-wide program to test tokenization of fixed-income securities and investment funds under ANBIMA oversight.

Itaú Unibanco has entered Brazil’s tokenization pilot program led by industry group ANBIMA, the bank confirmed on Tuesday.
The initiative will explore the issuance and trading of tokenized fixed-income securities and investment funds using blockchain technology. Itaú will participate alongside other financial institutions in a structured framework designed to assess regulatory, operational and technological feasibility.
ANBIMA, Brazil’s financial market association, is coordinating the pilot as part of broader efforts to modernize capital markets infrastructure. The program follows regulatory guidance from Brazil’s central bank and securities regulator, CVM, which have signaled support for tokenization within defined legal boundaries.
Tokenization, the process of representing assets as digital tokens on distributed ledgers, is seen as a potential efficiency driver for issuance, settlement and custody. Itaú’s involvement underscores growing institutional interest in the technology amid evolving regulatory clarity in Latin America’s largest economy.
The pilot is expected to run for several months, with results to be shared with regulators and industry participants. No timeline for commercial deployment has been disclosed.
Itaú did not respond to requests for comment beyond its public announcement.
