Honeywell's Access Control System to Modernize U.S. Marine Corps Barracks

Honeywell Technologies has deployed its LenelS2 OnGuard access control system to modernize the U.S. Marine Corps' barracks facilities. The system is part of the Marine Corps' Barracks 2030 modernization initiative and is designed to manage more than 70,000 locks across participating installations.

The new system replaces varied, standalone access control systems previously used by the Marine Corps. It offers centralized management of access permissions and activity monitoring, utilizing a government-provided cloud instance. The system fulfills Department of Defense cybersecurity and compliance requirements.

The pilot program for the new system is being implemented at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina. Marines will use their Common Access Card as the primary credential, alongside newly introduced mobile credentials for barracks rooms, shared spaces, and common areas.

The deployment is expected to reduce labor costs by approximately 80% and material costs by approximately 60% compared to legacy approaches. This is primarily due to the elimination of extensive wiring requirements and the reduction of onsite infrastructure needs.

Honeywell's LenelS2 OnGuard system has been recognized with awards, including the FORUM's Disruptive Tech Award in March 2026 and the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association's Distinguished Award for Excellence in Emerging Technology in 2026.
