FingerMotion Secures 9.9 MW Power Site in Alberta’s Newell County

FingerMotion Inc., a developer of AI-driven data infrastructure, has finalized a binding memorandum of understanding to acquire a 9.9 megawatt (MW) power site in Newell County, Alberta, approximately 185 kilometers southeast of Calgary. The acquisition marks a strategic expansion into renewable energy-backed data center operations, avoiding traditional grid interconnections and transmission bottlenecks. Located adjacent to an existing natural gas facility, the site will generate and consume power on-site under Alberta Utilities Commission Rule 007 and an Industrial System Designation for behind-the-meter self-supply, enabling faster permitting and operational flexibility. The project follows a phased approach: first securing regulatory approvals within 120 days of release, then energizing the site against contracted demand with customer deposits before constructing modular data halls tailored to client requirements. BlueFlare Group Holdings Inc., an Alberta-based energy operator, will support development and operations. FingerMotion’s move underscores its focus on scalable, energy-efficient data center solutions, leveraging local infrastructure to mitigate grid constraints common in conventional projects.
