Ernexa pauses ERNA-201 preclinical work to focus on ERNA-101 oncology program

Ernexa Therapeutics (NASDAQ: ERNA), a Cambridge, Massachusetts‑based cell‑therapy company, announced preliminary preclinical results for its synthetic induced mesenchymal stem‑cell (iMSC) candidate ERNA-201. Using a collagen‑induced arthritis model, several ERNA-201 formulations lowered disease severity and improved clinical arthritis scores versus untreated controls, demonstrating the platform’s ability to deliver anti‑inflammatory factors.

The company said the data validate the iMSC platform, which underpins both ERNA-201 and its lead oncology candidate ERNA-101. ERNA-101 is engineered to express an IL‑7/IL‑15 fusion cytokine and is intended for a first‑in‑human study in platinum‑resistant ovarian cancer. Ernexa plans to submit an investigational new drug application for ERNA-101 in the fourth quarter of 2026, with clinical data from that study expected by the fourth quarter of 2027.

To concentrate resources on the upcoming ERNA-101 milestone, Ernexa will pause additional preclinical spending on ERNA-201. The company retains the option to resume ERNA-201 development later and will continue evaluating other cancer indications and next‑generation iMSC candidates.

President and CEO Sanjeev Luther said the ERNA-201 results met the company’s expectations and give confidence to preserve its future opportunity while focusing on bringing ERNA-101 into the clinic.
