Charles Schwab posts record August net new assets of $64.8 billion

Charles Schwab posts record August net new assets of $64.8 billion

Charles Schwab Corporation said its core net new assets reached $64.8 billion in August 2026, the highest monthly total on record and a 46% increase from August 2025. Total client assets rose to $13.41 trillion at month‑end, up 19% year‑over‑year and 3% from July.

The firm opened 424,000 new brokerage accounts in August, an 11% gain over the same month a year earlier. Margin loan balances grew to $177.6 billion, a 58% jump from the end of 2025, including $53.7 billion of margin loans and $55.8 billion in short credits tied to long/short strategies.

Daily average trades hit 9.8 million, with derivative trades accounting for 24.2% of activity, up from 22.5% a year earlier. Clients bought $34.2 billion of ETFs and sold $7.0 billion of mutual funds during the month. Transactional sweep cash rose by $6.5 billion to $483.3 billion, reflecting continued demand for long/short strategies.

Advisory services assets totaled $6.86 trillion, split between $956.4 billion in investor services (up 24% YoY) and $5.90 trillion in advisor services (up 21% YoY). At August 31, Schwab reported 40.1 million active brokerage accounts, 5.9 million workplace plan participant accounts and 2.4 million banking accounts.
