Caplin Point shares drop 6.3% on Q1 2026 update

Shares of Caplin Point Laboratories fell 6.3% on Tuesday after the Indian generic drugmaker reported its first-quarter results for fiscal 2026, which fell short of market expectations.

The company’s stock declined to ₹1,020 from ₹1,088 at Monday’s close, reflecting investor disappointment following the release of its Q1 2026 update. Caplin Point reported revenue of ₹2.1 billion for the quarter, a 5% decline year-over-year, while net profit decreased 8% to ₹350 million. Analysts had projected revenue of ₹2.3 billion and net profit of ₹400 million, according to consensus estimates compiled by Reuters.

The company attributed the underperformance to weaker demand for certain key products and higher input costs, which squeezed margins. Caplin Point, a mid-cap generic pharmaceutical manufacturer, has faced pricing pressure in both domestic and export markets, particularly in its core cardiovascular and anti-diabetic drug segments.

Management noted that while new product launches are expected to support growth in the second half of the fiscal year, near-term headwinds persist due to competitive pricing and regulatory scrutiny in key markets.

The broader Indian pharmaceutical sector has seen mixed performance in recent months, with larger players benefiting from export demand while mid-cap firms struggle with margin compression. Caplin Point’s shares have declined nearly 12% over the past three months, underperforming the Nifty Pharma index, which is down 5% over the same period.

Analysts at ICICI Securities maintained a neutral rating on the stock, citing valuation concerns despite the company’s strong product pipeline. The brokerage firm trimmed its price target to ₹1,150 from ₹1,250, citing the weaker-than-expected quarterly performance.

Caplin Point is scheduled to hold an earnings call with investors on August 15 to discuss the results in further detail.
