BTCPay Restricts Remote Lightning Access Following Fund Thefts
BTCPay Server restricts remote access to Lightning nodes after reported exploits drained operator funds.

BTCPay Server has restricted remote access to Lightning Network nodes following reports of security breaches that resulted in stolen funds.
Bitcoin Foundation and Citadel21 reported that attackers successfully drained multiple Lightning nodes. However, the total financial losses and the exact number of affected node operators remain unknown as investigations continue.
In response to the incidents, developers implemented access restrictions to mitigate further risks associated with remote node management. BTCPay Server is an open-source, self-hosted cryptocurrency payment processor widely used by merchants to accept bitcoin transactions without intermediaries.
